TBubz, Awesome Comics & Sam Read Sells!

Hey folks!

Been a heck of a week & a half, so here’s an update…

TBubz!

First up; Thought Bubble was predictably brilliant – met many old & new friends, & had a complete blast.

Thank you to everyone who popped by & said “hi”; was great to see who I managed too!

While at the convention, I had the opportunity to be part of Nerdly’s ‘Pass-It-On’ intervies, which involved me (by proxy) getting to ask creators Kieron Gillen & Jamie McKelvie of Wicked+Divine fame a question about sandwiches; check it out below (& thanks to Mark Allen for getting me involved).

Taking with Awesome Comics!

I also had the great pleasure to sit down for a good ol’ chin wag with the gents from the Awesome Comics Podcast team this week.

We covered topics from Exit Generation, to our shared love of 90s action films, & through to my deep appreciation of Tommy Lee-Jones’ portrayal of Two-Face in Batman Forever.  I’ve embedded it below, so hope you’ll give it a whirl!

Sam Read Sells!

After a few people have mentioned to me recently that they’ve struggle to get hold of my books, I’ve set up a new webstore called Sam Read Sells (yes; on brand, I know…) to help out.

There you can get hold of Find Exit Generation (both #1 & #2), as well as my new collection Shorts, & for a limited time I’m putting on a bit of a sale.

Right now you can get the first couple of issues of Exit Generation for just £2 each, plus postage, as well as Find & Shorts for £2.50 each, again with postage; so, head on over & snag yourself a bargain!

(& if digital comics are more your speed; head on over to my Comixology page right HERE)

Thanks for popping by folks; till next time!

Next weekend: Thought Bubble 2015!

It’s that most wonderful time of year again…

Thought Bubble!

Yes; next weekend (14/15 November) a whole bunch of amazing comic folks will be descending on the Royal Armouries in Leeds for two glorious days of fun… & once again I’ll be tagging along too!

This will be my third year exhibiting at the convention, & my first in the TB Marquee, which is an exciting new experience.

You’ll find me at table 64, & have put together a little map to help you seek me out…

SRMQmap

Nice & close to the entrance, & also right along side several of my pals; it will all be excellent fun.

At Thought Bubble, I will of course have with me copies of Exit Generation #1 & #2, Find (including some signed by artist Alex Cormack; while stocks last), & a brand new comic called (*drumroll*)… Shorts!

SHORTS cover for blog

Shorts is a collection of four… well… short comics I’ve written across the last couple of years, which are either hard to find, or have never been in print before.  It includes;

It features a gorgeous cover from lead-slinger extraordinaire Ruairí Coleman, who will also be at Thought Bubble (& tabling right behind me!), so you can get him to sign it all nice too!

I also want to say an extra-big thank you to both Dee Cunniffe, for helping me put it all together, & Rich Hardiman at comicprintinguk.com for the always swift & excellent service; both are kings of men, & you should hire Dee for all your colours, & Rich for all your comic printing!

This year, I’m also lucky enough to be a small part of the Thought Bubble Anthology from Image Comics, having worked with sensational art talent Abigail Harding & letter-lord Colin Bell on a piece called Across My Heart.

The anthology features some some of the best new & established talent out there, including several of my personal favourite writers & artists, so am completely honoured to share a publication with them.

It will be in shops this Wednesday, 11 November, so you can grab it before the show.  All profits go to the Barnardo’s Childen’s Charity, so I do hope you pick it up (& if you bring it over to Marquee Table 64 on Saturday or Sunday, I’ll happily scribble my name on it for you too)!

Well, I better get back to getting ready; hope to see you all at the weekend!

Exit Generation #2 – Out 28 October!

Hey people!

I’ve only been back from New York Comic Con less than a fortnight (where I had an AMAZING time) & already it’s time for Exit Generation #2 to hit comic book shop shelves & Comixology!  No rest for either the wicked or those who make comics, it seems!

ISSUE TWO COVER

Next #NewComicBookDay (so… Wednesday) you’ll be able to grab Exit Generation #2 from the shelves of your local shop, or but it online at Comixology, if you’re a digital reader.

Once again, you’ll have a choice between two gorgeous covers; either one by Ramon Villalobos & new series colourist Marissa Louse, or the second of four connecting variants running across the whole series from the fantastic team of Joe Mulvey & Jules Rivera.

As a little taster of what to expect in this second issue, I’ve popped the opening five pages below; not only do you get to see the introduction one of the two new (& very important!) characters, but also the brilliant colour stylings of the aforementioned Marissa Louise – go follow her on Twitter & tell her how awesome her work is!

I hope you enjoy the preview, & hope you’ll consider picking Exit Generation #2 up this week!

New York, New York (Comic Con)!

It’s been a quiet year on the convention front for me, with only London Super Con & Glasgow Comic Con under my belt.

But next week I’ll be at convention I’ve never exhibited at before, which is…

 NEW YORK COMIC CON!

nycc-logo-large

Yes!  That’s right!  From Thursday 8 October till Sunday 11 October I’ll be attending New York Comic Con as part of the ace ComixTribe team at booth 1924 (right next to Avatar Press, & across from Oni Press)!

Now, NYCC is a BIG event, so to help you find your way to where I’ll be signing, chatting & generally being overawed, I thought I’d draw a handy map, showing how to find your way from the main entrance;

Follow the red arrows! Or head down from Midtown Comics' MASSIVe booth!

Follow the red arrows! Or head down from Midtown Comics’ MASSIVE booth!

Over the four days, you’ll find a great number of the talented so-&-sos who’ve worked with ComixTribe at the table, including Alex Cormack (‘Find‘, ‘Oxymoron‘), Joe Mulvey (‘Scam‘), John Lees (‘The Standard‘, ‘And Then Emily Was Gone‘), publisher & creator Tyler James (‘The Red Ten‘, ‘Epic‘), Cesar Feliciano (‘The Red Ten‘), Steve Forbes (ComixTribe EIC), & with appearances from Jules Rivera (‘Oxymoron‘) & Rafer Roberts (‘Oxymoron‘).

So make sure you pop over, & either bring or pick up plenty of ComixTribe books to get them signed!

I’ll have copies of Alex Cormack & I’s sold-out one-shot collaboration ‘Find‘, as well as copies of ‘Exit Generation #1‘, & am already looking forward to signing any copies of both that folks have been kind enough to pick up before the show, as well as any people buy on the day, too!

Well, I better get back to packing, as I head out to the airport first thing tomorrow!  But I hope if you’re attending you’ll pop over & say hello!

See you state-side!

Exit Generation hits Previews!

Hey folks!

Well, it’s been a really exciting week for me.

“Why?” I hear you ask?  I’ll tell you why…

Because Exit Generation #1 went up for preorder in Previews Magazine!

Yes, that’s right; you can now head down to your local comics emporium & ask them politely to order a copy (or two; we’ve got variants!) of the first issue of Exit Generation when it drops in September!

Said retailers can find it on Page 316 of Previews Magazine July, with the order code JUL151204, & below you can see our lovely entry (spotlighted, no less) in all its glory!

“That’s me in the corner; that’s me in the spot-light…”

To celebrate this occasion, I’ve popped up a 5-page preview of the book over HERE!  So please go & check out Caio’s beautiful art, Ruth’s gorgeous colours, Colin’s snazzy letters, Ramon, Joe & Jules‘ wonderful covers, & perhaps consider putting it on your pull list!

On that note; for those folks out there who are unfamiliar with why people need to go order a comic that isn’t out for two months, a lil’ explanation…

What We Talk About When We Talk About Comic Preorders

Most monthly comics arrive at market through Diamond Comic Distributors, who solicit comics to retail (i.e. your local store) on behalf of publishers (i.e. ComixTribe) via a monthly magazine called Previews, which features releases scheduled to come out in two months time (hence July Previews containing books for September).

Previews July 2015 Magazine in all its glory!

With this in their hands, retailers then use their hard-won knowledge & well-honed intuition to make choices on what to preorder, based on what they believe will sell for them.  It also helps publishers decide what the demand is for their books, so they can fulfil the orders retailers make by printing enough/not printing too many.

Now, when it comes to books like Batman, Avengers etc retailers can expect a certain level of sales, thanks to the prestige & profile these types of book enjoy, & so take risks on them.  But with smaller names (i.e. me!) retailers need your help in deciding if it is worth taking a chance on them, or even to be aware of them, because there are a lot of comics in Previews competing for their attention.

comparison

Previews (left) next to a graphic novel; a BIG read…

In raising retailer awareness of a title you would like, or better yet preordering, this both ensures you get your coverted copy, & avoids the unfortunately all-too-common situation where folks head out on release day to check out a book, only to find their retailer didn’t know about it, let alone order it in for their shelves.

A peek at just one page i a Previews order form; that's a lotta books!

A peek at just one page of a Previews order form; a whole lotta books for retailers to choose from!

But you can help avoid that situation!  Head to your local store (or if you shop online; your website) & tell them about the books you’ve seen & ask for them, because unless the book you’re looking for is also a TV show or movie, there exists a chance that however tuned into the comics grapevine your retailer is, they may not have heard about it.

This why every single copy of Exit Generation #1 that you order means a tremendous amount to us; retailers have a tough job, & any help they can get deciding what might do well for them is so important.

I worked in comics retail for several years, & I know that it is the readers who make comics.  It is their passion & enthusiasm that is the cornerstone of the industry; something never more clear than when it comes to the ‘art’ of preordering.

I hope that helps demystify the whole deal with preordering a little, & explains why I’m asking those people interested in the series to request Exit Generation #1 (JUL151204!) from their local comic book stores.  The whole team is grateful for your support.

Take care ’till next time, people!

Sam

Back in (a different) Orbit…

Hey again everyone!

Been a while, but a LOT going on, especially with it being just ONE MONTH (!!!) until Exit Generation #1 hits Previews & is available for pre-order.

One Month & Counting…

I’m cooking up a few surprises for when that takes place, so watch this space… or this space; Exit Generation’s Facebook page, where you can see sweet reveals like… THIS AMAZING JOE MULVEY VARIANT FOR EXIT GENERATION #1!

WOOOOOOOAH, right!?

WOOOOOOOAH, right!?

This simply AMAZING piece is coloured by the fantastic Jules Rivera, & is the first of four linking (yes, you read right; LINKING) variants that Joe & Jules are producing.

Trust me when I say; they are creating something really special with these, & I’m really excited to have both these brilliant creators involved with the book!

Orbiting Once More!

Last time I mentioned having had the privilege to have spoken with the lovely Chris Thompson of the Orbital in Conversation podcast (the results of which you can still hear HERE), and I also sat down recently with the most excellent Robin Harman of the Orbiting Pod for a good ol’ natter about Exit Generation, punk music & a whole lot in between (mainly comics).

You can catch our chat HERE, & hope you like it; I certainly had a blast talking with Robin!

That me for now, but until next time; take care!

In Orbit(al)…

Hey folks!

Just a quick one today; wanted to share a link to my first ever podcast interview, which took place at the recent London Super Comic Convention, & found me chatting with the awesome Chris Thompson of Orbital in Conversation.

We chatted about both Find Exit Generation, & a whole other load of comics stuff, so pop on over & take a listen HERE.

I’m on second, after my pal Alex Paknadel, writer of the excellent upcoming Arcadia from BOOM Studios, which you should absolutely check out when it hits the shelves in May.

Hope you find it interesting, & don’t forget to give the Exit Generation Facebook Page a ‘Like’!

Till next time!
