Next weekend: Thought Bubble 2015!

It’s that most wonderful time of year again…

Thought Bubble!

Yes; next weekend (14/15 November) a whole bunch of amazing comic folks will be descending on the Royal Armouries in Leeds for two glorious days of fun… & once again I’ll be tagging along too!

This will be my third year exhibiting at the convention, & my first in the TB Marquee, which is an exciting new experience.

You’ll find me at table 64, & have put together a little map to help you seek me out…

SRMQmap

Nice & close to the entrance, & also right along side several of my pals; it will all be excellent fun.

At Thought Bubble, I will of course have with me copies of Exit Generation #1 & #2, Find (including some signed by artist Alex Cormack; while stocks last), & a brand new comic called (*drumroll*)… Shorts!

SHORTS cover for blog

Shorts is a collection of four… well… short comics I’ve written across the last couple of years, which are either hard to find, or have never been in print before.  It includes;

It features a gorgeous cover from lead-slinger extraordinaire Ruairí Coleman, who will also be at Thought Bubble (& tabling right behind me!), so you can get him to sign it all nice too!

I also want to say an extra-big thank you to both Dee Cunniffe, for helping me put it all together, & Rich Hardiman at comicprintinguk.com for the always swift & excellent service; both are kings of men, & you should hire Dee for all your colours, & Rich for all your comic printing!

This year, I’m also lucky enough to be a small part of the Thought Bubble Anthology from Image Comics, having worked with sensational art talent Abigail Harding & letter-lord Colin Bell on a piece called Across My Heart.

tbantho

The anthology features some some of the best new & established talent out there, including several of my personal favourite writers & artists, so am completely honoured to share a publication with them.

It will be in shops this Wednesday, 11 November, so you can grab it before the show.  All profits go to the Barnardo’s Childen’s Charity, so I do hope you pick it up (& if you bring it over to Marquee Table 64 on Saturday or Sunday, I’ll happily scribble my name on it for you too)!

Well, I better get back to getting ready; hope to see you all at the weekend!

FIND – UK Release; Reviews round-up; US/Can retailers!

Hey there folks!

UK Shop Release

First up; it seems that the crazy-pants weather in the US has stalled shipping for Find to Europe, & possibly rest of the world.  Which sucks.

As soon as I know more details, I’ll throw them up here, on Facebook & on Twitter so you can know when to run out & get it!

THIS WEDNESDAY, my European comic folks; promise!

Sorry for the delay, my European comic people.

But even though Find might not be out quite yet, Comixtribe are releasing the collected edition of And Then Emily Was Gone, which you MUST check out!  All those involved (John Lees, Iain Laurie, Megan Wilson, Colin Bell) have dropped career-best work on this, so make sure you get involved.

Review Round-up

Since Find hit the shelves in North America & online we’ve been lucky enough to garner a bunch of super-nice reviews!

I’ve collected them all here, including those I’ve posted before, with the latest (I think…) at the top;

  • Jeff Marsick for the mighty Newsarama‘s Best Shots said HERE of Find; “one of the best books of the year so far” & awarded it 9 out of 10 (!!!), which completely blew everyone involved in the book away!  Thank you so much, Jeff!
  • On Reading With a Flight Ring, Find was called “the one shot story to beat for the remainder of the year.”  Whoa; awesome!
  • At Need To Consume, JCDoyle commented that “Find is a totally enjoyable read“, & you can read the rest of his lovely review HERE.
  • Graphic Policy‘s Brett Schenker recommend Find as a ‘Buy’, & that it “stands out as my favorite debut of 2015 so far“; you can read more of Brett’s really kind words HERE.
  • Rodrigo Lopez over at Major Spoilers included Find in his Staff Picks of the Week; you’ll see it just next to the awesome Gotham Academy!
  • In Comics Bulletin‘s 140 Character Reviews Aaron Meyers said of Find “Enjoyed the art and a great story that is familiar and fresh at the same time.”
  • John Amenta for Pop Culture Uncovered gave Find 4 out of 5 stars in his review HERE, saying of Alex & me; “These are two names to keep an eye out for.”  Thanks, John; really appreciate that!
  • Enjoyed a great chat with Paul Mirek about Find for Broken Frontier which you can read HERE, & Paul also chose Find as one of his staff picks of that week too.
  • On Comics AnonymousGary Watson said Find was “a great one-shot”; you can read his review HERE.
  • Craig Neilson for Big Comic Page reviewed Find HERE, calling it “highly, highly recommended“.
  • I also spoke with Craig about Find, my other comics & a whole lot more; you can read all that HERE.
  • Brad from Bag & Bored reviewed Find HERE, & said that with it that “ComixTribe once again hits the ground running.
  • On Comic Crusaders Adam Cadmon said “If you’re in the market or a feel good story, something light-hearted to take a break from the more intense subject matter, you won’t find a better book” in his review that you’ll find HERE.
  • & Steve Morris was kind enough to review it for his site The Spire just HERE, saying “I was really impressed by the way the creative team chose to tell the story“; thank you very much, Steve!

Phew; that was a lot of articles!

As always; I want to extend my gratitude to all those who took the time to review Find & speak with me, & am so pleased that everyone seemed to really enjoy it.  & if you know of, have done or are planning to review Find; hit me up, & I’ll share it around!

On top of these great articles, Nick & Gary at Bill’s Books & More in Canton, Ohio USA had some kind words about Find in their video round-up of this week’s releases, with Nick selecting it as his pick of the week; thanks, Nick!

Make sure if you’re in their neighbourhood you pop into Bill’s Books & More, grab some of the good stuff, & tell them I sent you!

& all this talk of retailers leads nicely to…

North American Stockists!

Yes, while the horrid weather might have held up Find‘s arrival in the rest of the world (apart from for digital readers), comic fans in the US & Canada have been able to pop down their local shop & see Find waiting for them on their shelves!

Thanks to my pals across the pond I’ve been able to compile a list of CONFIRMED locations that are stocking us, so I hope you’ll all get down to or use mail order to sell these lovely folks out of Find!

  • The lovely folks at the aforementioned  Bill’s Books & More, Canton, Ohio (USA) – Twitter & Facebook
  • Jesse James Comics, Glendale, Arizona (USA) – Twitter, Website & Facebook (these guys do free hotdogs on Wednesdays?!  Awesome!)
  • Merrymac Games & Comics, Merrimack, New Hampshire (USA) – Facebook
  • The ace-sounding Dragon’s Lair, San Antonio, Texas (USA) – Facebook & Website
  • Gotham Central Comics, Mississauga, Ontario (Canada) – Twitter, Website & Facebook
  • & Midtown Comics, New York City, New York have Find listed on their site HERE, so should be available there too!

A huge, HUGE thank you from me, & all those involved with the book to all the stores listed above, & anyone else who has stocked it too – if you’ve seen it in your local store, or are a store who are getting it in, wherever you might be in the world; get in touch, & I’ll get the word out.

Working in comics retail, I realise the chance taken by stores in picking up Find, & want to make sure they sell out wherever they’ve been ordered; I hope the positive reviews & any interested customers we can point towards those who’ve got it in can help that!

So, there you go; a mammoth post for this chilly season.  Hope you all can root out some Find over the weekend & next week, & if you do; hit me up on Twitter & Facebook (heck; I’m even on Instagram now) to tell me what you think!

Till then; adiós muchachos!

Exit For The Masses!

After a stonkingly successful weekend at Thought Bubble (full write-up later this week), it is now time to unleash Exit Generation #4 on the entire world!

A PDF copy will set you back just a single UK pound (£1), while plush, physical copies go for three bob (£3) plus postage (domestic just £1; rest-of-the-world £4.50).  All the other issues of the series are also still available at the same rates.

So, if you didn’t get the chance to head down to the convention this past Saturday & Sunday, now you can grab up all the issue!

On that note, I’ll leave you with a couple of beautiful pieces of Exit Generation art produced by the fantastic Steve Beaumont, who’d painted a sinister Chief Taster, & ruff-&-tuff Hanna.

Steve dropped these over the last few days & I was both surprised, delighted & utterly humbled; I hope you guys enjoy them as much as I do, & go follow Steve on Twitter & tell him how excellent he is!

Just a light snack...

It’s… All… Happening…

Hey gang; long time no see! But while I’ve been away from here, nothing (literally nothing) has slowed down on the comics front, believe you me. Four bit of news things to update you all about, but let’s start with next weekend’s BIG event… DICE!  DICE!  DICE! DICE_Logo Yes!  It’s that time again! In only a week, my regular comic-flogging accomplice Harry French & I will be over in the lovely city of Dublin in Ireland to attend that most brilliant of comic cons; Dublin International Comic Expo!

Check out the list of guests; it’s awesome! Really excited about making the journey over, & this time as an exhibitor (we’re under RF Comics, yo).  Looking forward to introducing Exit Generation (click to see a preview) to a whole new country… or at least those who’ve not grabbed the first couple of issues at Big Bang already (I’ll have issues #1, #2 & #3 for sale at DICE)! Hope to see you all there; it’s gonna be epic.

Rose for my Rose (City Comic Con)

Ok, next piece of top news is that this very weekend (20/21 September) both the wonderful Marissa Louise, our brilliant colourist on Exit Generation, & editor extraordinaire Adam P. Knave will be in attendance at Rose City Comic Con in Portland, Oregon.  Marissa will be at table F14 & at table N-3/N-4; Adam even made a map for his table! adam & in some AMAZING news, both will have copies of Exit Generation issues #1, #2 & #3 to sell; Go, snap ’em up, my American friends!

But, wait; there’s more!

Floating away…

I’m incredibly grateful to Marissa for also arranging for the mega-wonderful Floating World Comics in Portland to also get hold of the first three issues of Exit Generation!

This means that if you can’t get along to Rose City this weekend, hit them up & they can sort you out!  Am not sure exactly when they’ll be in stock, but it’ll be mighty soon (if not already!), so get one pre-ordered if they’re not in just yet. fwc-e1390296184684 I’m so jazzed & humbled that Floating World would want to stock Exit Generation, so I hope my state-side pals make it worth their while, & turn it into a sell out for them!  Go, go, go! & speaking of where you can buy Exit Generation

North, Both West & East

My local branch of Travelling Man here in York has kindly stocked Exit Generation for a while now, but as of this moment, people can also find them at the Newcastle, Manchester & Leeds stores too! travellingman So, if you’ve perhaps been hearing about the book, but been unable to pop along to one of the stores that already stocks it, such as OK Comics (who still have copies, & for mail order too, so don’t miss out!), now you have the opportunity to get them at a shop local to you.  & I hope you all do!

I’m very grateful to Ben & CJ at the York branch for organising this, so if you see either of them; give ’em a high-five from yours truly!  😉

Ok… so I think we’re done for now. Don’t forget to head into all the comic stores mentioned, & along to the cons too, & get yourself some Exit Generation, then jump on Faecbook &/or Twitter & tell me about it! Till next time, folks!

New Comic Day = FREE COMIC DAY

Hey!

You!

Yeah, ALL of you!

It’s New Comics Day again (which some people still insist on calling Wednesday…), & as I sat pondering all the awesome books coming out, I got thinking about how I might get in on the action.

So, I’ve decided that for a limited time only, I’m gonna give away digital copies of Exit Generation #1 for absolutely nothing, right HERE!

Yup; GRATIS!

Yup; GRATIS!

If you enjoy it, you can pop over to the ReadFrench Webstore, where physical & digital copies of the whole series are available to purchase.  Plus, hard copies are available from a selection of stores, including OK Comics in Leeds (UK), Big Bang Comics in Dublin (Ireland), Travelling Man in York (UK) & Nostalgia Comics in Birmingham (UK); go give them your business, folks!

As I mentioned, this is only be for a limited time.  So, go & spread the word, before my inner Scrooge McDuck forces me to subdue my generosity!

Hope you all enjoy it, & please drop me a line with any thoughts.

Till next time!

PS – Because our webstore won’t let us give stuff away, Exit Generation #1 is currently 5p there, but there is a link in the description on how to get it for free, so don’t buy it; nap it for nothing instead!  😉

An Ode to OK

Is Wednesday the best day of the week?

I think so.

Of course, I might be bias, because I think that any day that involves new comics appearing on the shelves of shops will struggle to find an equal!

& this Wednesday over at Europe’s ONLY Eisner Awards 2014 shortlisted store OK Comics of sunny Leeds, you can pick up not one, not two, but ALL THREE Exit Generation issues so far!

Check 'em out, y'all!

Check ’em out, y’all!

You can head over & grab them off the shelf right this very minute, or hit the guys up via their website to get them via mail order.

& also make sure you pop over to their Facebook site, give it a ‘like’, & then check out the ultra-lovely status update they made about Exit Generation!  To quote it in part;

“I’ve never known a self-published, self-funded, comic book sell quite so well as EXIT GENERATION…”

Having been a part of the UK comics community for over 10 years, the Eisner award nomination this year was just reward & recognition for the hard work that Jared, Oliver & the plethora of brilliant folks who’ve worked there since it opened, helping introduce literally thousands of people to new comics & graphic novels, & always with a smile.

I’ve been a member of the team there for over two years now, & reading that status above reminds me again how lucky I am to be surrounded by such awesome & kind folks to whom I owe a great, great deal for their support & belief in me.

So, make sure you head on over, grab up some Exit Generation, as well as some other ace books (make sure you ask for a recommendation; we won’t steer you wrong), & check out the awesomeness that is OK Comics.

Till next time; take care!
